A Comfort HomeA Comfort Home is dedicated to assisting our residential customers with reducing their energy costs without sacrificing comfort. We have identified 7 common trouble spots that prevent many homes from becoming high performance homes.

These 7 common trouble spots are:

1. The house has hidden air leaks
2. The duct system has air leaks
3. There is insufficient attic ventilation
4. There is insufficient insulation
5. The heating and cooling equipment is inefficient
6. The heating and cooling equipment is improperly sized
7. Exhaust gases are vented in a hazardous manner

We identify and judge the severity of these trouble spots for your home by performing an Energy Audit or Energy Assessment on your home.

What is an Energy Audit?

An energy audit is the first step to assess how much energy your home consumes and to evaluate what measures you can take to make your home more energy efficient. An audit will show you problems that may, when corrected, save you significant amounts of money over time. During the audit, we will pinpoint where your house is losing energy. Our Audit also determines the efficiency of your home's heating and cooling systems. We provide you with a detailed analysis on your home as part of the audit.

$250 Energy Assessment
Designed for customers that want a detailed analysis of their home’s performance
We conduct and document a 50 point visual inspection of the interior and exterior of the house. This includes checking the attic for improper sealing of the duct work, insulation gaps, construction flaws, penetrations open to the attic. We also check for window and door sealing. We check the efficiency of all appliances like water heaters, heating and air conditioning units and any unusual electrical load your house is using. We perform a combustion safety test on all gas appliances. We deliver a 10 page report detailing our findings. Included in the report are recommendations for the improvements we feel you would need to make your home more energy efficient. As part of our report, we include a cost/benefit analysis of all recommended work. This information allows you to prioritize your work and go after quick, low-cost “wins”.

$500 Comprehensive Energy Audit
Designed for customers that want a comprehensive analysis of their home’s performance
The Comprehensive Energy Audit includes all of the elements of the Energy Assessment but includes an additional level of analysis and detail. We use Blower Door technology to test for the houses’ overall air tightness, gauges to test and compare room pressures and relative humidity. We use HERS Certified computer software with detailed inputs from your home to evaluate the energy efficiency of your home. We deliver a 28 page report detailing our findings. Included in the report are recommendations for the improvements we feel you would need to make your home more energy efficient. As part of our report, we include a cost/benefit analysis of all recommended work. This information allows you to prioritize your work and go after quick, low-cost “wins”.

$125 Combustion Safety Test
Designed for customers that would like to have their gas hot water heater and furnace tested for combustion safety
We perform a worst-case depressurization test. This combustion safety test determines if any non-sealed combustion appliances will back draft or spill combustion products into the living space. We document the combustion efficiency of the appliance and provide a detailed report on the CO and CO2 production of the appliance. (Cost includes 2 Hot water heaters and 1 Furnace – additional appliances may require an additional fee)

$100 Attic Ventilation Assessment
Designed for customers that are concerned their attics are not properly ventilated
If your attic experiences excessive temperatures (greater than 25 degrees above outdoor temp) you probably have an attic ventilation problem. We will measure your attic, document the volume of air contained in your attic and make a recommendation on how much and where to properly ventilate your attic. If you are getting a new roof due to spring hail storms this is an excellent time to revisit your attic ventilation needs.

$100 Blower Door post test
Designed for customers that do their own home improvements

Many customers take our recommendations and do the retrofit work themselves. We think this is a great approach. After the completion of your project, we can come out and blower door test your home to verify results and help you celebrate your success!
